Welcome to the Table of Isotopes CD-ROM 8th edition: 1999 Update Read Me notes, January 30, 1998 The following comments apply to PC users, except as indicated. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Installation of the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Adobe Acrobat Readers for PC Windows 95/98/NT are found in the Acrobat folder on this CD-ROM. Additional readers for many other computers can be downloaded, at no cost, from Adobe on the Internet at http://www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/readstep.html. Follow the instructions in the Table of Isotopes printed material and read the files readme.htm in the acrobat folder for additional instructions. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Internet Browser Considerations. The file welcome.htm on the CD-ROM provides links to both a local Table of Isotopes HTML home page, toi.htm in the folder toi99, and a WWW Table of Isotopes home page, http://ie.lbl.gov. The local home page provides access to data in text, HTML and PDF formats. Links provided to the Table of Isotopes and the Table of Superdeformed Nuclear Bands and Fission Isomers can be viewed with Netscape browser version 3.0 or greater. Internet Explorer may give unexpected results. Other PDF links should work well with either browser. The local home page can be used without an Internet service provider, but links to the WWW Table of Isotopes require an Internet availability. Macintosh users: The .htm files on the CD-ROM can be opened from the browser directly by entering, for example, the URL file:///toi99cd/toi99/toi.htm or dragging the file into the browser icon.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Installation on a Hard Disk. For faster performance, copy the Table of Isotopes CD-ROM to your hard disk. This will require about 630MB of free disk space. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using the Table of Isotopes. Open the file toi99.pdf in the root directory of this CD-ROM. You will be given the options to go to the Table of Isotopes (PDF), Table of Superdeformed Nuclear Bands (PDF), Isotope Explorer (HTML) , or Internet Table of Isotopes (HTML). The PDF files can be navigated by clicking on bookmarks at the left, hypertext links (blue text), or the Acrobat Reader navigation buttons on the menu bar. Macintosh users: The PDF files on the CD-ROM should be opened directly with Acrobat Reader. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Isotope Explorer 2.21 Installation (PC Windows95 and NT). Isotope Explorer 2.21 software is provided for viewing and searching the Evaluated Nuclear Structure Data File (ENSDF) and the Nuclear Science Reference file (NSR) provided on this CD-ROM. This software must be installed on your hard disk to run properly. Visit the Isotope Explorer Tour at toi99cd/www/isoexpl/isoexpl.htm on the CD-ROM for more information and the Isotope Explorer Manual. Download information is provided there, or you can run the file toi99/www/isoexpl/isoexpl_.exe in the CD-ROM to install the program and associated data files to your hard disk The installation program will prompt you for a file destination which should be set to the hard disk, not the CD-ROM drive. Isotope Explorer software upgrades can be downloaded, at no cost, from the Internet at http://ie.lbl.gov/isoexpl.htm. For faster performance, the databse folders ensdf and nsr97 should be copied to the hard disk and set as the local databases with Isotope Explorer. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- User feedback is greatly appreciated.
