Figure 2. Sporulation. Asymmetric septation is followed by growth of the cytoplasmic membrane around the “spore compartment” which is then surrounded by two membranes. Transfer of the chromosome is completed and the cortex between the two membranes is formed as well as the core layer. Finally, the vegetative cell disintegrates.
