Reviewer Instructions

In Highlights very important new results of original research should be described by a third person with a view to instruct and to highlight their significance. The results should be presented clearly, but as succinctly as possible, without the comprehensive details required for an original article. Highlights should include only essential formulas and figures as well as not more than 15 references. A Highlight should not be longer than two pages (up to 9000 characters). Highlights should not have more than two authors.

Referee Recommendation

Referees should give an overall recommendation as to whether a manuscript should be published without, with minor, or with major alterations, or should be rejected.

Please formulate the comments for the authors in a polite form, even when heavy criticism is being delivered.

Minor alterations include:

• To correct references or add more references;
• To improve the quality of graphics;
• To give more accurate explanations for some of the results;
• To shorten the manuscript;
• To correct typos or other minor mistakes.

Major alterations include:

• To include more details;
• To completely rewrite the manuscript.

Manuscripts that require major alterations will usually be re-evaluated by the referee(s).

1. Please rate the importance of the original research discussed

Naturally, the judgment of the importance of a paper is to a certain extent subjective. Please note, we are asking for an evaluation of the importance only with regard to publication in Angewandte Chemie. Thus, a paper can be considered to be very important or highly important for a broad and heterogeneous readership and is thus suitable for publication in Angewandte Chemie or it may be "only" important to a particular area and thus is more suitable for journals catering to a more specific audience.

2. Please rate the citation of previous publications

Where possible the highlight should contain not more than 15 references.

3. Please rate the length of the manuscript

A Highlight should not be longer than two pages (up to 9000 characters) and include only essential formulas and figures as well as not more than 15 references.
