Unprecedented Multicomponent Organocatalytic Synthesis of Propargylic Esters via CO2 Activation

NHC organocatalysis: A straightforward organocatalytic method for the direct carboxylation of terminal alkynes towards propargylic esters, is reported. A simple, widely-available, stable, and cost-efficient N-heterocyclic carbene precursor salt was used as the (pre)catalyst.

Synthesis of a Series of Substituted Thiazole Derivatives: New COX-2 Enzyme Inhibitors for Colon Cancer and Inflammation Treatment

A series of substituted thiazole derivatives were synthesized as new COX-2 enzyme inhibitors for colon cancer and inflammation treatment in yields 70-84% with GI50 values within the range 2.18-7.77 μM. Molecular docking study was performed in order to rationalize the obtained biological results and get insight the ligand-protein interaction. The inhibitor used, SC-558, in complex with the crystal structure of COX-2 (PDB ID: 1CX2).

Light-Induced Bistability in Iron(III) Spin-Transition Compounds of 5 X-Salicylaldehyde Thiosemicarbazone (X=H, Cl, Br)

Pssst—it’s LIESST: Strong intermolecular π-π stacking interactions (see figure) can lead to the light-induced excited-spin-state trapping (LIESST) effect, even for iron(III) spin-crossover (SCO) compounds. This condition, induced through a photoexcitation process, is necessary for trapping the high-spin metastable state of an iron(III) SCO complex.
