14 Introduction
What You’re Not to Read
Understanding the concept of Healthcare Content Management and building a
Healthcare Content Management system does not require you to read every tip,
let alone every word. Just flip through the pages and let the individual keywords
inspire you to read.
Foolish Assumptions
The fact that you are reading these lines reveals more about you than you might
think. For example, we assume that the increasing complexity of clinical IT systems
and of the data that emerges from them is currently a major issue for you.
We also assume that you suspect that you’re not really exploiting the true added
value of increasing digitalization.
How do we figure that? In a nutshell: just like you, the IT Managers and Managing
Directors of almost all major healthcare facilities currently feel the same way.
This is hardly surprising, as digitization in hospitals has only recently reached a
level at which comprehensive digitization strategies really make sense in practice.
The question that now arises is: which strategy is the right one for which institution?
In this little book we would like to provide you with a potential solution
and illustrate how the concept of Enterprise Content Management can be applied
from the traditional industry sector to the healthcare industry, and which benefits
it might offer you.
So, if you are responsible for the economic direction of your institution – be it
as Managing Director, as CIO or as IT Manager – we would like to assume that
reading
this book will be worthwhile to you.
How This Book is Organised
We have structured the book into four logical parts:
1. Part I explains the basics of Healthcare Content Management and illustrates
the scenarios the concept can be applied to and its fundamental benefits.
2. Part II examines whether a Healthcare Content Management system
generates
added value in your institution and which prerequisites need to
be fulfilled.
