APPENDIX The Application of HCM on the Basis of a Clinical Case 95
The patient stays
Before going into the OR, Frank is of course examined by the doctor on duty at
the surgical ward. Thanks to the information from the HIS, which the doctor retrieves
in advance, he is well prepared for Frank’s treatment.
✔✔Clinical information retrieval with HCM
The embedded multi-format viewer provides the doctor with insights into the
admission procedure, the brought in radiological images and the information
from the case history form. Additionally, he takes a quick look at information
from Frank’s previous hospital visits. This is straightforward and above all fast
because the data had already been transferred to the »fast« storage.
While reviewing the data, the doctor notices that Frank had already been treated
as a patient in another hospital within the group. In order to complement his understanding
of the case, he would like to inspect the discharge report for this visit.
✔✔Access to data within a group with HCM
The embedded multi-format viewer makes it easy to request the discharge
letter at the push of a button. The patient ID and the classification
»discharge report« are used to search for the appropriate document via an
XDS transaction on the central XDS registry. Once identified, the doctor
can display the document alongside all other data in the multi-format
viewer.
In preparation for the surgery, the doctor orders a complete blood count and an
ECG. The ECG data is transmitted digitally in DICOM format via the appropriate
interface into the HCM system. The results of the blood sample taken in the
laboratory
are also automatically added to Frank’s file.
✔✔Transfer of laboratory data into the patient file with HCM
An HL7 MDM message provides the HCM system with the laboratory report
from the laboratory system as a CDA document. The ECG data is
received as well. Upon receipt, the data is automatically classified, i.e.
sorted
into the corresponding registers of the filing plan. The HIS is then
informed
that the laboratory report is available in the HCM system.
Because of his medical history, Frank is no simple case for surgery. In order to
plan the surgical procedure, further radiological images are necessary before the
operation.
