This Is What’s New about HCM
In the first chapter you have learned that an HCM system consolidates the data
of a healthcare facility. Now you might argue that your existing digital archive or
document management system can do the same. And you are right – at least partly.
However, it is still worth reading on, because previous solutions are limited in
their functionality: an archive only archives and a document management system
only manages documents, which, after all, make up only a small part of all medical
data. To summarize it: previous IT systems solve specific problems, whereas
Healthcare Content Management is a holistic concept. While it does include
already familiar aspects such as archiving it is also taking care of much more crucial
components which are not yet fully represented by existing IT systems, but which
make process-related use of medical data possible in the first place. These include:
✔✔optimization for clinical, case-related data
✔✔possibility of joint presentation of all case-related data
✔✔possibility of classification
✔✔harmonization of the numerous file formats
Now it is time to take a closer look at these prerequisites for HCM.
