THIS CHAPTER
The digitization opportunities with HCM and
what use they have in practice
Under which conditions is an HCM
system useful?
Facilities for which HCM does NOT make sense
Is Your Institution
Ready for HCM?
Look Before You Leap …
There is no doubt about it: HCM is one of the most compelling concepts today
for elegantly mastering the transformation to a digital healthcare facility. However,
it is not a panacea for all facilities suffering from »analogitis« without exception.
The rollout and operation of an HCM system are complex and cost-intensive,
which is something we don’t want to hide at this point.
Whether the implementation of an HCM concept is the ideal concept for your
institution can be determined by means of a simple analysis: what is the current
financial investment required to make medical content available at the right place
and the right time (including interfaces, maintenance of subsystems, time expenditure
and so on)? And what would be the cost of rolling out and operating
an HCM system?
To make the introduction of an HCM system solely dependent on financial questions,
however, would be too short sighted. Because not all benefits, long term in
particular, can be evaluated in terms of monetary investment. Whether HCM is
sensible for an institution must be assessed and evaluated individually for each
case. In this chapter you will find important aspects that will help you to make
such an assessment for your institution.
