What »small projects« are suitable for getting
started with HCM?
Implementation of small projects
HCM for Beginners
The replacement of an HIS system is not only one of the most complex IT
projects an institution can face, it is also one that affects all users. Fortunately,
you want to introduce an HCM system. This makes the transition
easier for you because it can be implemented piece by piece. Start with smaller
projects and be prepared for the big one.
Out with the Paper
As an introduction, reducing the mountains of paper is useful. There are good
reasons to digitize paper files, even those of financial nature; an example is the
elimination of paper file logistics or savings on file storage. However, there is also
a desire to make files from past cases more readily available for clinical work.
Depending on what you want to achieve with digitization, you have a choice of
three approaches:
✔✔ creation of a single digital document for an entire case file (the economical
option);
✔✔ aggregation of all documents from the register of paper-based files into one
digital document; and
✔✔ creation of separate documents for each logical document, for example a
finding (does not lead to savings, but is most beneficial for clinical users).
One digital document per case file
If you opt for this, you will be done quickly. First you link the patient master data
and the case data from the HIS. Classification can be omitted or at least extremely
