Chapter 3
THIS CHAPTER
Tasks that can be performed by existing
IT systems within the framework of HCM
How the HCM system differentiates itself from
existing systems
Existing components that can be used for an
HCM system
What Can an HCM System
Do that Other
Systems Can’t?
In order to make it easier for you to read this chapter, we would
like to remind you once again of the essential core ideas of an HCM
system, which we have worked out in detail in Chapter 2. An HCM
system should:
✔✔make all clinical data (documents, images, signal data) accessible
✔✔display data in relation to patients and/or cases
✔✔ enable and represent the classification of data
✔✔ enable a multi-format view, meaning the (simultaneous) display
of documents, images and signal data
✔✔ enable management of multiple format variants of the same
document for different applications (e.g. original format,
PDF, CDA)
✔✔ allow the ability to pass on data in-house
✔✔ support cross-institutional data transfer via interfaces such
as IHE-XDS
