CHAPTER 8 Let’s Do It: How to Implement Your HCM Project 75
One Thing at a Time:
Implementation in Seven Steps
You have now identified a first, promising HCM project and received the green
light for its procurement. You are ready to go now. Even if the first use case is
relatively
small, you’ll need more or less all the logical components of the HCM
system for your first project. However, you don’t have to implement all interfaces
in one go.
For implementation, a tried and tested order of steps is recommended. Before
you set up live data in your HCM, you must provide the necessary prerequisites.
Remember:
✔✔Raw data is only helpful when it is put into the right context. Therefore, you
should first integrate the patient master data and the case data
from the HIS.
✔✔Adding data without safeguarding it is a risk. A disk crash might actually
happen within the transition period. The data can sometimes continue to
be archived in the subsystems from which it originates. In the end, however,
this would lead to duplicated archiving, which will cause additional work,
which you ultimately want to avoid. A simple back-up protects you against
a disk crash, but does not automatically provide audit-proofing. So it’s
better
to set up the archiving first and add the data afterwards.
✔✔ In order to configure retention times and to select the documents to be
archived,
it is necessary to have access to the data classifications. Accordingly,
you must do this before setting up the archive.
✔✔ If there is data in the HCM system, but the authorization concept has not
yet been implemented, everyone can freely access the data. A privacy expert
would therefore advise: prevent access for everyone or implement the
authorization concept first.
In order to consolidate all data sensibly into a single system, the formats should
be harmonized. Data can either be supplied in a harmonized state or be harmonized
as soon as the data has been transferred into the HCM via a suitable application
component.
Make sure that all classifications have been retained during data import and that
all data has been imported intact and in its entirety. If this is the case, you can
approach setting up the multi-format viewer and finally set up data export. There
are always reasons in HCM projects to modify this order on the spot. But
